A FLAG FOR SWINDON

Across the United Kingdom, Cities, Towns and Villages have flags that represent themselves. These flags complement the National and County flags, adding to each town's identity and unique character. The Swindon flag is a design proposal for Swindon. The flag design is an opportunity to help create a sense of pride in the town, a positive Swindon.

Swindon is as equally unique as any other location in the country. Swindon's history can be traced back to the doomsday book and beyond with ancient iron and bronze age forts surrounding it on the hills which make up the borough's landscape. It is widely believed that the pivotal Battle of Ellendune was fought near Wroughton.

In recent history, Swindon has become an ever more vital town. Building icons of British steam locomotion for over 100 years for the Great Western Railway and constructing famous Warplanes during WWII. One constant reminder of Swindon's contributions to the nation is the former GWR medical fund's "cradle to grave" health care system which was seen as the blueprint for the National Health Service. Swindon is a crucial town in the United Kingdom and deserves its own flag which recognises its impressive heritage and unique identity.
